Gianguido gorlier award 2025 theme - Cetaceans
Deadline for entries: 21 APRIL 2025
Art. 1) This award has been instituted in honour of Gianguido Gorlier, passed away in 2002, whose life was characterized by a strong passion for nature, pursued with attentive observations, research and dialogue with scientific institutions, as well as lively intellectual curiosity that unified the natural world and human cultures and history in a continuous and passionate analysis of existence. The intention of the award is above all to commemorate his spirit so that his example as observer and analyst of the world may serve as a path on which to follow in his footsteps for those, researchers or enthusiasts, who desire to understand that which surrounds them, also for the purpose of passing their own experience onto others for the common good.
Art. 2) Every year the award is granted to young enthusiasts or students who have committed themselves to study or research on the chosen theme. The purpose of this recognition is to award not only the scientific merit and the originality of the research, but also any other kind of contribution (e.g. monographs, videos, photos, articles, stories, illustrations, artistic work of any kind) capable of highlighting the passion, interest and the desire for knowledge of the participant.
Art. 3) Participation is free. Candidates, aged under 35 on 31 December 2005, must submit the work(s) with which they intend to participate to the office: these works can be either essays and/or published scientific works or any other form of work (photography, videos, articles, stories, books as well as artistic works regardless of medium or technique) attaching a short description of their reasons for pursuing the topic of the contest. Unless otherwise requested, all submitted material will be incorporated into the "Fondo Gorlier" (Gorlier Collection) where it will remain open to the public.
Art. 4) The contest will be judged by a Commission composed of experts and a representative of the Gorlier family as President. The Commission's judgment is indisputable. Prizes will be provided by the Scuba Equipment Department of ME.ST.EL Srl, OCEAN REEF and Tethys Research Institute, along with a commemorative plaque indicating the year of the event and the contestant's ranking. Awards must be personally accepted by the author or by someone he/she selects for that purpose, the evening of Saturday 20 May 2025 at the Acquario Civico in Milan.
